Smaller Footprint

20ft Standard Container

The 20ft is the smaller of the two standard sizes. Inside, it measures about 19 ft 4 in long, 7 ft 9 in wide and 7 ft 10 in high, and it can be placed in spots a 40ft cannot reach.

It suits a renovation, seasonal equipment, or a business that has outgrown its back room. It needs 110 feet of straight clearance at the drop point.

Common Uses

  • ✓ Renovations and moves on Charleston peninsula lots and in the older West Ashley and James Island neighborhoods, where room to stage material is limited and there may be no garage to empty into.
  • ✓ Contractor tool and material storage on job sites across Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Richland, Lexington, Greenville and Spartanburg counties, replacing the daily load in and load out.
  • ✓ Farm, timber and hunt club storage across the Pee Dee, the Sandhills and the Lowcountry, where a container can be the only lockable building on the parcel.
  • ✓ Upstate sites that will never take a 40ft: on mill village streets and foothill drives, two 20ft boxes can fit where one long box cannot, and give you two doors and two locations.
  • ✓ Coastal and island property on Johns, Wadmalaw, Sullivan's, Isle of Palms, Folly and Hilton Head, where steel holds up to salt air when the paint is kept up.
  • ✓ Storm season readiness along the coast, keeping records, generators, tools and irreplaceable belongings dry, locked and in one place you can reach quickly.

Double the Space

40ft Standard Container

Twice the storage of a 20ft in the same width. The 40ft standard suits contractors, farms and businesses with large equipment or many pallets.

The trade is access. A 40ft needs 130 feet of straight clearance for the tilt-bed to set it down. On a constrained lot, two 20ft units may fit where one 40ft will not.

Common Uses

  • ✓ Port and drayage overflow around the Wando Welch, North Charleston and Leatherman terminals, where owned ground storage is an alternative to paying daily charges on a steamship line's container.
  • ✓ Manufacturing and supplier storage at the plant fence line, in the industrial corridors around North Charleston, Ridgeville and Greer.
  • ✓ Warehouse and dock overflow along the I-85 and I-26 corridors, where a container adds seasonal room without a long space commitment.
  • ✓ Equipment and implement storage on Pee Dee row crop operations around Florence, Darlington, Hartsville and Kingstree, where there is room to work and a straight pull off the county road.
  • ✓ Peach shed and packing house storage on the Ridge around Johnston, Ridge Spring and Monetta, ahead of the summer picking season.
  • ✓ Equestrian and training barn storage around Aiken, holding feed, tack, jumps and show equipment that moves with the season.

Most Space

40ft High Cube Container

Same footprint as the standard 40ft, one foot taller: 9 ft 6 in outside and about 8 ft 10 in inside. That foot can help with tall equipment and overhead services, while insulation and a finished floor reduce the available headroom.

The extra foot suits conversions such as offices, bunkhouses, break rooms and workshops. It needs the same clearance as any 40ft: 130 feet of straight run.

Common Uses

  • ✓ Pallet racking for the automotive and tire supplier yards around Greer, Ridgeville, Ladson, Sumter and Richburg, where the extra foot of height gives racking more room.
  • ✓ Any build you intend to insulate and finish, because closed cell foam on the walls and ceiling takes headroom you cannot get back in a standard 40ft.
  • ✓ Distribution and logistics operations along the I-85 and I-26 corridors and around the inland ports at Greer and Dillon, staging freight upright rather than flat.
  • ✓ Raw stock and finished goods storage for advanced materials and nonwovens plants across Greenville, Spartanburg, Laurens and Cherokee counties.
  • ✓ Parts and tooling storage close to the equipment yard, rather than back at the shop, for timber, quarry and industrial operations across the Pee Dee and the Sandhills.

Modified Containers

A modified container starts as a standard steel box and gains the parts you need: doors, windows, insulation, electrical, climate control. The result is a weatherproof structure that can be placed wherever the delivery truck can reach.

Which modifications matter depends on where it will sit. Insulation and ventilation are decided by climate, not preference, so tell us the site and the intended use before the specification is fixed.

Common Uses

  • ✓ Job site offices for general contractors working in Horry, Berkeley, Dorchester, York, Lancaster and Beaufort counties.
  • ✓ Secure tool and parts rooms for the contractor base around Joint Base Charleston, Fort Jackson, Shaw Air Force Base, Parris Island and the Savannah River Site.
  • ✓ Workshops and studios on Upstate foothill property, where two 20ft units can sit on a site that cannot take a 40ft.
  • ✓ Break rooms and dry storage at timber, quarry and industrial operations that run crews well away from any building.
  • ✓ Hunt camp and field buildings on Pee Dee, Sandhills and Lowcountry tracts that have no structure on them at all.

Refrigerated

Refrigerated (Reefer) Containers

A reefer is a shipping container with a refrigeration unit built into one end, holding anywhere from -25 degrees F to +70 degrees F. The insulation is part of the original build, not added afterwards, which is why it holds temperature the way a retrofitted box cannot.

Available in 20ft and 40ft. It needs a 460V 3-phase connection, or a compatible generator where 3-phase power is not on site. Confirm your power supply before ordering.

Common Uses

  • ✓ Peach growers and packers on the Ridge around Johnston, Ridge Spring, Monetta and Saluda, and in Spartanburg County, holding fruit between picking and packing.
  • ✓ Produce and watermelon operations across the Lowcountry and the Pee Dee that need cold on the farm rather than a round trip to town.
  • ✓ Caterers, festival crews and event operators along the Grand Strand, on Hilton Head and in Charleston who need cold storage delivered to a site that has none.
  • ✓ Restaurants and grocers in Charleston, Columbia, Greenville and Myrtle Beach adding walk in capacity in the lot rather than rebuilding the back of house.
  • ✓ Seafood, shrimp and charter operations along the coast and the sea islands that need cold at the dock.

Before You Order

Site Preparation and Delivery Clearance

Containers arrive on a tilt-bed truck. Knowing your clearance before the truck is booked is what keeps a delivery from turning into a second trip.

Required Straight Clearance

20ft
110 feet straight clearance
Measured from the drop point in a straight line
40ft
130 feet straight clearance
Standard and high cube both

Also check: at least 10 ft of width, at least 15 ft of driving height and at least 22 ft of height along the entire unloading path, plus the road surface. Gravel and dirt may be workable, but flag steep grades and soft ground before booking.
